Spring 2006 Column

Published: 12-03-2006
Author: Chris Sterio

Bonjour! This is the first update and column for Beatfactor from me this year, so here we go with some of the latest news from the world of Source of Gravity & electronic music….

Opening up 2006

For label managers the early months of the year are typically taken up by organising the year’s release schedule. Signing music up to cover up at least to the summer is pretty common at this time of the year. I have all that organised for Source of Gravity, especially as my other line of work, sports development, is busier in the summer months than in the winter. February saw Source of Gravity open up with an awesome 2 track EP from Orchid and a Sterio & McGrath vs. Section 75 collaboration “Illusion” – “Illusion” has been getting particular interest with support from Paul van Dyk and Anthony Pappa plus progressive tune of the month in M8 Magazine. Following on from those in April we will be a debut release from Joshua Thomas, with some remixes from Neil Kolo (Fade), a 3 track EP from those North Carolinian masters KVK and some new unreleased remixes of Source of Gravity releases from Joshua Thomas (a fine remix of Porter of Blain), Paul Bowen and Section 75. The summer will see a new release from Sterio & McGrath (“Gulfcoast” with several cutting edges remixes) and another top class Orchid EP with two originals and remixes to boot.

Switzerland

Switzerland is country that has produced some cool producers, djs and labels in recent times with Chab, DJ Nukem, Sog Records and Musiq immediately springing to mind. Two leaders of the nu crop of Swiss DJ/producers are Dan Welton and Marrocco, and we hooked up when I played at their new night Shove @ the Paradox Club in Neuchatel. Awesome accommodation in the Swiss mountains, as well as some warm Swiss hospitality was an offer pre-gig, and the intimate Paradox club was absolutely rammed with a clued up crowd to boot. With several top UK DJ/producers booked to play in the coming months, this is definitely a night to check out if you are in the area. Whilst I was there we also worked on a remix for Source of Gravity and did a live phone interview with Paul Hughes on his PH Factor show on Energy FM – all good fun!!!!

Production and radio update

There’s also been some work going on in the studio between Source of Gravity artists with Sterio & McGrath completing “Gulfcoast” and two other tracks nearing completion. In addition Chris Sterio & Section 75’s collaboration “Harsh Realm” is also “work in progress” alongside the Chris Sterio & Samer mix of Native “Forever” for 1 Shot. I believe Samer has been doing some work on that whilst flying across the Atlantic!!! Alongside all this there is a Source of Gravity radio show on Proton Radio in the pipeline to go with our regular broadcasts/features on the likes of Rotationz Radio and Energy FM. Talking of radio exposure our new Head of Promotions Lee Pennington (Section 75) has completed a super mix of some the current and future Source of Gravity releases in his Passage of Dawn mix. Airings due on Vonyc.com (Paul van Dyk’s shop/radio station) , Rotationz Radio, Energy FM (along with Section 75 and Chris Sterio interview) and Unbalanced Sessions. That’s all from me from now…. adios!!!
