Winter 2006 Column

Published: 11-12-2006
Author: Chris Sterio

August was the last time a wrote a column, but there’s plenty to report on, on a larger scale the end of the summer season in the likes Ibiza, and in the world of Source of Gravity 2 new releases plus a tour of the USA. Here we go….

USA

The annual Source of Gravity trip to the USA (I think we’ve only missed 2004 since the maiden voyage in 2001) saw Section 75 and myself hit clubs/radio stations across the states over a 2 week period. Club gigs in Charlotte, New York, Tampa and St Petersberg were supplemented by addition radio exposure in Charlotte, New York, Los Angeles, not to mention the Energy FM live interview hook ups back in the UK. Tight intimate venues were in the order of the day during the trip, emphasising the current digital metamorphosis of the dance industry. The two weeks were a good chance to catch up with Sean McClellan, Tim Mills and Lee Pennington and help plan a path for Source of Gravity into 2007. Many plans were hatched (watch this space) and Tutto Mundo resident DJ Chad McNeely, a well known name in the Carolina and Atlanta scenes, has been brought into the fold. 3 gigs in Charlotte were followed by some sterling work by Section 75 in New York, and then the tour finale in St Petersberg @ The Lobby, a well known venue in the mid Florida area. Mark Kovach (Solid Sounds, DJsinbox) made the journey down from Gainesville, it’s always good to meet in person some of these guys in person that you’ve been in contact with over the internet for about 6 years!! All in all a great trip, and there are some “exchange” trips lined up for the end of 06 and throughout 07 for those involved “in the Source”…..thanks to all those out there who made things happen, you know who you are!

Releases

September saw not only our US Tour, but also the release of some new tracks on Source of Gravity Digital. The Manx deadly duo Sterio & McGrath unleashed their crafty “Gulfcoast” track with a monster of an original, plus remixes from Source of Gravity homeboys Sean McClellan and Tim Mills. That’s not to mention the Mike Brin remix which became the staple of the Sterio sets stateside!! Second on the double header of releases was the mercurial Orchid. A double feast of “Eastern Echoes” and “Surround Sound” is on offer with Mr Sean “Pelican” McClellan on the knobs again, this time on “Eastern Echoes” – seek and acquire from the websites listed below. We have some more nuggets lined up for the coming months as well, Davison & Anderson in fine collaborative form, Section 75 feat. Penny kicking off Gravitation Digital not to mention more Sterio & McGrath and a debut single from Tim “Millhouse” Mills.

You can’t hide from the future

I am hoping the legacy of US Tour 2006 will be a lengthy and positive one. The dance music work in changing rapidly at the moment, and if it changes as much in the next two years as it has in the last two, we are all going to have to be very much on our toes!!!! I think for many people things are going to go very much in-house so hopefully we are set for that and everyone can benefit for such a set up. I am on the look out for some new artists to bring to the fold too, and some have been identified. There are plans in place for 2007 to get everything firing, the next few months’ releases should set that up nicely…..
