Phil Kieran
He Aint Heavy, But He's Ginger.

As with most northern Irish beat freaks of note, Phil Kieran's head was never quite the same after a visit to David Holmes' seminal Sugarsweet nights back in the day. The open-minded approach of the hedonistic Belfast club left it's mark on the young producer, refusing to be bound by genres or fashion. This broad approach has infused everything Phil does.

So far PK has released breaks on Electrix, Mob and Eukabreaks;experimental bleepery on Dublin's Trama industries and house and techno on Bugged Out, Skint, Turtle Trax and Kingsize (where he delivered the awesome 'House
Nation'-sampling Vitalian House). On the remix front, Slam, Midfield General, Arthur Baker and Meat Katie are among those who've received thePhilly treatment. Back home, there have been collaborations with Belfast based Product Deluxe, Slide and BASIC and his own club night Sector One, which showcased live irish electronica, is gone, but has left a lasting positive impression on the city's now vibrant dance music scene.

A longstanding resident at undisputed Belfast heavyweight club Shine, Phil has regularly played alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin, Umek and Justin Roberston (who recently selected two PK tracks for a compilation). Now launching Shine Records with material from Jon Carter and Slam, PK will
be among the high-profile regular contributors.

Always keen to avoid chin-stroking blokery, Phil's DJ sets are a chunky blend of techno, electro and breaks. It's all throbbing basslines, jagged synths, cut up and in your face. Sometimes dark, always funky, always aimed at the dancefloor. Think Dave Clarke getting frisked by Carl Craig circa 91.

As demand for PK tuneage rises, so the bookings have stepped up too. Recent passport stamps include China, Poland and Israel and this year's diary is looking a bit battered. Back in the UK, Phil has played major DJ and
live dates at the End and Bugged Out, Tennants Vital02 and Creamfields as well as every quality underground night you care to mention.
