BedrockBIOGRAPHY: After running Bedrock for 10 years, it was only natural that John Digweed would expand his musical empire into a record label. In October 1999 John launched the label with his and Nick Muir’s (his studio partner) self fitted Bedrock record “Heaven Scent” which shot into the top 40 at the time and has since become a seminal progressive house track, still periodically reemerging in the hands of the worlds finest remixers.
The idea behind Bedrock Records stems naturally from that same attitude that pervades the night at Heaven. It represents a commitment to the underground scene; to artists, clubbers and other DJ’s alike. The aim being to take quality underground tracks and release them into a bigger market, giving artists the exposure they deserve and clubbers a great experience in a constantly developing scene.
The development of Bedrock Records has come from further releases from, Science Dept (Danny Howells and Dick Trevor); one of the Nu Breed, Steve Lawler, Brancaccio & Aisher, Guy Gerber, Luke Chable, Yunus Guvenen, dousk, POB & Taylor, Momu, Randall Jones, Christian Cambas, Steiger, Astro & Glyde, Luke Fair and many, many more besides. The mainstay, Compiled & Mixed series has now been ably looked after in the hands of John Digweed, Jimmy Van M, Chris Fortier and Creamer & K, whilst Hyper & Meat Katie have built an impressive breaks series. With a new series well underway too, Desyn Masiello and Jonathan Lisle take the reins of the ‘Original Series’ with their stellar mixes and debut devoted mix albums.
The label has quickly become one of the most influential on the house and breaks scenes though it has established itself far beyond a single genre, its significance felt throughout the dance industry and its independent status allowing huge artistic freedom and attachment to what remains an underground vibe.
