DistinctiveDistinct’ive Records is a well established, London based dance label. Having been around for almost a decade Distinct’ive has continued to break musical boundaries with its eclectic artist roster that includes the likes of Hybrid, Way Out West, Dub Pistols, Chris Coco, Christian J and new signing Ils.
Over the years the likes of Hybrid and Way Out West have grown to be globally recognised acts that produce music that is far from ‘run of the mill’. Dominating that progressive/house/breaks sound Hybrid and Way Out West continue to produce high quality music that leaves others in a similar vain light-years behind.
The Dub Pistols are a more recent signing but are equally as prominent. ‘Six Million Ways To Live’ saw the Dub Pistols collaborate with likes of Terry Hall from The Specials, Horace Andy, Planet Asia and Sight Beyond Light to name but a few. With their hip-hop/breaks/ska sound the Dub Pistols are a band that fail to disappoint.
Chris Coco needs very little introduction. Chris Coco is a Balearic pioneer and a man who is not afraid to champion sounds and artists who are a little off centre. 2005 will see Chris Coco release his second artist album on Distinct’ive Records. As well as being top class solo artist, Chris also presents the Blue Room Show on BBC Radio 1 with Rob Da Bank.
Breaks wonderboy Christian J is also signed to Distinct’ive Records and with tracks like ‘Party People/Rife’ causing a stir at the end of 2004 the forthcoming year promises to very productive for Christian J.
Distinct’ive Records most recent signing is that of Ils. Ils’ forthcoming artist album already has people talking and is sure to be one of the big albums of 2005. As well as the artist album you can expect to hear Ils remixes and a handful of other projects throughout the course of the year.
