Jukebox In The SkyJukebox in the Sky is an established independent record label, set up by Slacker in 1998. Since the label’s first release, ‘Psychout’, bossman Shem McCauley - initially with studio partner Simon Rogers and now flying solo - has produced a steady stream of quality house music under the guise of both Slacker and Head Honcho.
Since inception the Jukebox name has become synonymous with superior dance music. Shem’s creations are recognised for their outstanding production, full-on energy and quirky sample magic. His first Head Honcho track on Jukebox, “Walls of Jericho”, was featured on the classic Northern Exposure series. The follow-up “Medicine” is still being hammered by DJs - most consistently Sasha - several years after its release. The massive Slacker single, “Looky Thing”, was played around the Globe by a diverse selection of DJs including Seb Fontaine, Judge Jules, Dave Seaman and Ivan Smagghe (of Black Strobe fame). Shem’s most recent Slacker release “Best Boyfriend”, packaged with remixes by The Scumfrog and Steiger, was championed by the likes of Carl Cox, John Digweed and Tom Stephan.
There are numerous Slacker original productions waiting in the wings for the coming months. Currently hitting dance floors is the breakbeat monster, “Goddam Noize” B/W “Tutikinegi”. Even at pre-production this funky infusion caught the eyes of Hernan Cattaneo, Paul Oakenfold and Pete Tong.
In addition, this year sees Jukebox extending its family by taking two new artists under its wing. Pioneering the label’s first non-Slacker release, Natalia Data is set to make a big impression. Russian born Natalia’s fresh production style and unusual approach to music fuses minimal tech and electro, moving Jukebox in a dynamic new direction. Remixes of her first single ‘The V.I.P.’ from SCSI9, Walter Ercolino and Rhythm Code make it a formidable package.
Autumn 2005 will see another producer of critical acclaim joining the Jukebox camp. Simon Rogers is a talent who commands great respect from the industry’s finest. Recording under the name Steiger, Simon’s first single on Jukebox, “Cha Cha”, will be given the star remix treatment by Nick Muir, Paolo Mojo and Slacker himself. Definitely one to watch out for!
Shem’s decision to concentrate on furthering the label has paid huge rewards, setting the Jukebox imprint up as one of the strongest of its genre and enjoying regular licenses from the likes of Global Underground, Bugged Out! and Ministry of Sound. Behind the scenes the label has continued to go from strength to strength with the recent launch of a comprehensive website and webshop. Glowing new partnerships are also being developed with the likes of 3Beat Digital, City16, DJ Download, INGrooves, Juno and Beatport to spread our sound even further online.
