Fatboy Slims' Skint imprint returns with an peak-time cross-genre masterpiece in the form of Alloy Metal. Firmly stapled to the top 10 of the juno.co.uk chart among others for the past month, this is certainly one not to be missed.
The A side sits on a straight 4*4 repetitive beat with a guitar-riden baseline so filthy that even bleach would have trouble cleaning it up. A series of dropouts, beats and breakdowns ensue to ensure the your feet are firmly stuck to the dance floor. Then drops the staggered vocal "Times are changing...", they certainly are if Skint continue down this trend.
The b-side is an anonymous open break mix not unlike PMT or BLIM but yet encapsulating the positive nature of the a-side. The bassline is morphed into a simple but effective resonating melody which slows the track down slightly for the A-side but yet gives it the diversity it deserves. Staying clear of the urge to create a Dub the Alloy boys keep the Vocal for the b-side.
An effective release and one of the best I've heard from Skint in a while.
