Dan Mangan & Danny Bonnici team up on Australia’s finest label for a double A-side offering what will definitely cause a blend amongst lovers of quality electronic dance music everywhere. Schwental! EP consists of two progressive house and electro tracks which will surely delight anyone. Starting life as a house remix of an old classic that was never released, Periwethel is as out of the ordinary as it’s title. It’s one of those progressive house inconsistencies that strays far enough from the trodden track to be only a little misplaced. The nostalgia created by the melodic line of this track is subtle and combines itself with the driving electro bass lines and jagged synths.
Velvet Blunderground is a progressive trance tune, with layered filtered bass lines and a constant rhythm, accelerated by the continuous melodic line. It’s all electronic and from the half a beautiful melody raises up from the bald rhythm. Continuing to deliver twisted samples and filtered strings, this tune is more dynamic, but less contaminated by the nostalgia from the previous tune.
With two mix compilations doing the rounds (Hiddenform 01 with Luke Chable, and Electric_02 as Nubreed with King Unique), as well as a single with Andy Page, and now Dan Mangan, Danny Bonnici is quite on fire at the moment. As for Mangan, in the six short years he’s been DJ’ing around Melbourne and Australia, he’s been using his flexibility and technical cleverness to warm up, hype up, or wind up nights.
