James Zabiela and Nic Fanciulli have gathered their forces in the last few months to mix a compilation released at Ministry Of Sound. The label is known, the DJs are known – it’s the perfect recipe for the compilation’s success. “I had some gigs with Nic Fanciulli last year and we’ve become friends. Even if we have different music styles, we have some common points we arrive at a certain moment”, says Zabiela. Indeed it is so. Even if the tracks are different, they mix together perfectly. In a rather angst period, the two artists want to bring back the sound that made them famous. And we are here talking especially about Zabiela, the master of scratches. Let’s see what this is all about.
The first CD opens with a track of the both artists, Rover, a very warm and slow electro house, excellent for a warm up set. If this first track hasn’t yet caught your attention, you shouldn’t push Stop. We continue with Deep Dish and Stay Gold, in a re-edited version by Zabiela and Fanciulli. From here a warm adventure of progressive house, deep and tech-house begins with the scratches that made Zabiela so famous. At a certain moment we find Mathew Jonson as Cobblestone Jazz. Close to the end, we discover another of Zabiela’s tracks, Human in an “One + One” version. The end is pretty good, because there are some very melodic parts, contrasting with the pure energy that the mixed tracks show. Tracklist:

The second mix starts with an excellent electro tech from Shane Berry. Probably planned ahead, the second mix is more energetic, more electro and fuller of life than the first one. This CD is much more indicated for the club, while the first CD is better for listening at home. It’s useless to enumerate all the productions that we already know and also all the unreleased ones. The compilation has them both, like it is advisable for such a compilation. The second mix is not very spectacular; it has mostly club music, electro, techno, with fine breaks passages.
The musical selection is pretty interesting, sometimes surprising, because there are things that we already know, but also some new ones. For those who are addicted to the “minimal” current and haven’t become techno purists, this compilation can come in handy.
